WHAT IS A MANDALA?  Mandala is an ancient Sanskrit word that means circle, magic circle, disk, unity and the center of one’s wholeness.  Often used as a symbol for the universe, mandalas have been drawn, carved, painted, rendered in stained glass and mosaic, sculpted and constructed in cultures around the world throughout time.  Virtually every ancient cathedral, church, temple, megalith and sacred space was a three dimensional mandala, symbolic of the very structure of the cosmos.  All were carefully oriented to the four directions or cardinal points plus above, below and center.  Many are radially symmetrical with intricate pattern, color and detail.  There are almost a limitless number of natural mandalas, from the Sun and Moon to the Earth and stars, from your eyes to the flowers they behold.  There are snowflakes, trees, bird’s nests, crystals, seeds, fruits and a vast array of plankton and microscopic animals that are perfect mandalas.
In 1975 Calley was introduced to the art of mandalas through her fascination with a kaleidoscope she received from her mom as a gift.

Finding its eight-fold symmetry beautiful and meditative, she took to drawing and painting mandalas with a passion.  For seven years, she painted only mandalas, focusing on plants and endangered species animals.

Working daily, she developed her creativity, proficiency in drawing and painting and stimulated tremendous inner peace and growth.  In 1975 Calley was introduced to the art of mandalas through her fascination with a kaleidoscope she received from her mom as a gift.  Finding its eight-fold symmetry beautiful and meditative, she took to drawing and painting mandalas with a passion.

During one two-year period, Calley also made a ‘mandala a day’ as an illustrated personal journal with writing from the heart.  Try it one year!  It was amazing.

In 1980, Calley did her first mural (7,000 square feet!) and enlisted 12 local New Jersey artists to join her in painting 15 huge mandalas on the history of agriculture in the United States.

The Uses of Mandalas:  Throughout history, mandalas have been used for healing, calming the mind, meditation, childbirth and expressing and teaching the source and oneness of life.

CALLEY’S PERSONAL HEALING MANDALAS FOR YOU:
Calley loves creating personal mandalas and accepts commissions for personal shields and healing mandalas.   Each of Calley’s custom mandalas is drawn as a visual meditation for the individual in Prismacolor pencils on a black foam core panel (16” square and larger).

THE PROCESS:
First, in a detailed interview, Calley listens carefully to what you want to express or manifest: your feelings, favorite colors, forms, shapes, symbols, meaning and purpose for your or your loved one’s mandala.  Personal mandalas make wonderful gifts of aloha for loved ones to benefit from this energy and beauty.  Calley enjoys series for each member of a family, and these look wonderful together on display.  Calley holds your wishes in heart and mind as she draws your mandala.

MANDALAS FOR YOUR HOME OR OFFICE
Every mandala evokes a different beneficial energy for a particular purpose (although each viewer may rightfully see something different).  Mandalas generate feelings of peace, wholeness, tranquility, balance and equanimity.
